It's a Good Day

For about a month now, I've been circling the perimeter of Santa Fe, never quite landing inside. But, that's all changed now. I'm here and it feels pretty good. I was concerned that I would hang on to the misgivings I apparently had about returning after almost a year, but they disappeared as I drove into town.

I haven't made my travels a real travelogue mainly because it's a return to the familiar. Today, I will more than likely check out Book Mountain, one of my favorite used bookstores, then head over to Borders, the one just off Guadalupe St., and perhaps lunch next door at El Tesoro, a small Guatemalan cafe on the mezzanine in the Sanbusco Center. They're good people with interesting and tasty food.

Driving through the high desert on my way to here really fed my love of the West. It was as though a vintage postcard or photograph had come to life, like a train rolling through the western landscape and Peggy Lee's, "It's a Good Day," riding along on the rails. Here she is, in a recording session of that song. And it is a good day.

  3. Hej Teresa! What a wonderful trip you have to the West. A great day, a good day. I enjoyed so much Peggy Lee and her singing, I miss the singers and the songs from that time. They were so charming, and they knew how to sing a song wtihout making too much fuss. That's how a sweet song like that should be sung. IMHO.
Have a nice time, Teresa. That Guatemalan café sounds interesting and the Book Mountain shop. Whauw, a mountain of books! Have you brought some of them back home?
    Cheers

  7. Linda, What a great time to be in SF. Do check out El Tesoro. It's a very casual atmosphere with great people-watching, which is always fun in SF. :)

MG (Karen), So good to hear from you. That's encouraging to me! :)

Grethe, I agree, that's exactly how a sweet song like that should be sung, no fuss, just a great song,well-sung. Charming, Yes! I'm afraid I have bought many books from BM over the years and some of them do come home with me now. I had a great time there today and will write about it soon! So Good to hear from You!

Lynn, It's been interesting, illuminating, and Many very good days. It's one great town.

Kristy, I Love knowing you're nearby, as well. Very Nice. And a glorious week to you!

  8. I love that town, the square with the folks selling their handmade pottery and jewlery on the square and all the art galleries, restaurants, and bakeries. Sounds like a wonderful time you are having.

  9. Hi Linda, Yes, it is. The bakeries are my downfall, so many kinds of breads! The scene of the native Americans selling their beautiful work under the portal of the Palace of the Governors has become iconic. The plaza is a fun place...more so in warmer weather. :)

  10. Memories revisited. Do you think your love of the west will pull you back? That's why I live in Montana and I'll never go back to Mn. Ahh, bookstores. My favorite, too. Did you visit your old favorite coffee house and bakery?
Peggy Lee... Haven't heard that in a long time. She had such a sweet voice and mannerisms. Good choice for you.
    Love and peace.

  11. Manzanita, I do realize the West is in my soul and I will no doubt spend part of each year here. The coffee house and bakery are on my list of things to do. I don't know much of Ms. Lee's life, but she seems to have this sweet, strong center. Have a good week!

  15. Fun to return to an old nest once in awhile. They often make for Good Days! Love the old image, the town and how the image returned me to the joy of taking my first ride. As you said, "riding along on the rails".
