She Lived In An Old Black Van

Yesterday, the public radio station, KAXE, featured my poem, "Yellow Pears," on their morning program, The Beat. I'm sharing it here, as I have with the others, and the link to the original posting of the poem: http://teresaevangelinespoetry.blogspot.com/2013/09/yellow-pears_25.html

It's one of my favorite childhood memories.

  3. I wonder if this is the dream of two houses that fall in love? Number 17 and 18 see themselves as pears, lightly bound by a line of washing. Free at last of their urban street, they see the lake and the hills beyond as they nuzzle gently, soaking in the afternoon sun!

I enjoyed the picture, and love your poem and the memory from your childhood. It is delightful how some of these moments from childhood remain with us.

    1. I have had that image on file since the beginning of my blogging and it just felt right now ... I love your interpretation of it ... :)

I can still see it so clearly ... feel that juice on my chin. Fresh fruit was almost unheard of on our poverty level farm. What a treat it was.

  4. Just wonderful, Teresa; the poem, the memories it evokes, and your steady, firm voice. You've made my, more than once,in fact, as I've listened to this several times.

  6. Hej Teresa, what a wonderful poem. I loved to listen to it. It must be a great experience for you to be on the radio. Congratulations. I'll say some day. "I know this Teresa Evangeline. She's a lovely person!"

Thank you for your comment on my poetry blog. I had not seen it until the day before yesterday. I have been away from my blog for a time. Trouble with my back. I hope to be here more often.

Many, many good greetings to you and Buddy.
Do you have a nice summer Buddy? Wruff!

Buddy says "Wruff" to you, dear Grethe! He's having a great summer, especially now that it's cooled down just a bit.

  9. What a beautiful voice you have Teresa. I found it hard to tell which complimented the other more, the words or the wonderful voice you sowed them with.

  11. What a lovely poem, and both illustrations seem to plumb different depths in the words.

Isn't it the truth that the smallest gifts can bring an unutterable sense of abundance? And we all (if we're lucky) learn the pleasure of indulging ourselves without harming others. Right now, the peaches have come in here in my neighborhood, and the juice has dripped down my chin more than a few times.

Nothing better than fresh fruit and their juicy goodness .... I had my first peach of the season a few days ago, and it was wonderful!
