Summer Meadow

This summer, I have fallen in love with my place all over again. The meadow is a constant source of happiness for both Buddy and me. His smile as he runs through the tall green grass is infectious. He reminds me daily to remember the joy in life. Yesterday was certainly no exception. He waited patiently while I took a bluebell's picture and posed for me as I took a few of him. Okay, several of him. And more than a few of the sky, the clouds, and the field. He sniffed the air, sensing the critters that had passed through earlier, and kept an eye on Ma. He is one fine companion. I may have mentioned this a time or two.

“Ten times a day something happens to me like this - some strengthening throb of amazement - some good sweet empathic ping and swell. This is the first, the wildest and the wisest thing I know: that the soul exists and is built entirely out of attentiveness."  ~ Mary Oliver

The photographs are mine.

  1. What a handsome dog. Your harebells are out, ours don't come out till late summer. I love the Oliver quote, thanks for that, it rings true for me today.

    1. He is, isn't he? Love him to pieces ... I vacillated between identifying them as harebells or the oft used bluebell, ... bluebell won. I'm so glad the quote spoke to you today.

  3. Buddy simply exudes happiness. How could anybody not be happy with that wonderful creature around you? And another Oliver line that just pops into my soul! :-)

Here's to many "sweet pings" in our human souls.

  6. Flowery meadows I fall in love with every year and always think they look better than ever before! Dogs of course have completely mastered this trick and greet their owners every day as if they've been missing from their lives for years.

    1. Yes, I love that sweet sense of seeing them with new eyes every year. And dogs have mastered so many things which we continue to fail at ... miserably. :) Thank you for this thoughtful comment.

  7. This post makes me happy. I'm remembering those long dark cold winter days, when days like these seemed so far away for you (and Buddy). May y'all soak it all in, with much joy. :)

  11. There's nothing quite like a love affair with land. I've been having one for years and each day seems to be spring all over again. It's nice to see how attached you've become. It sounds like you have found "home" to me.

    1. I've rediscovered why I love this place so much, and yes, it is home. I'm surrounded by every possible shade of green, and in abundance. My "tree house" is a very special place ... :)

Your love of the land is inspiring. I love hearing of your adventures, and your awareness of how it all works together is astounding.
