A Little Karma Repair

"Karma Repair Kit: Items 1 - 4"

     Richard Brautigan

1. Get enough food to eat, and eat it.

2. Find a place to sleep where it is quiet,
    and sleep there.

3. Reduce intellectual and emotional noise
until you arrive at the silence of yourself,
    and listen to it.

4.

  1. Brautigan was a fun writer, sad he had so many emotional problems. I got a combined book of his works recently and reread many of his books.

  8. Dear Teresa,
    Ah yes, #4!
    I so like #3:
    "Reduce intellectual and emotional noise
until you arrive at the silence of yourself,
    and listen to it."

That's what I somehow need to learn to do.

    Peace.

  9. One of my favorite books in my early life was "Trout Fishing in America" by Richard Brautigan. This brought back good memories. I wonder what happened to him?

  12. I enjoyed this, Teresa.

I've been unable to post comments for quite some time, Teresa, which is why you haven't been hearing from me. The word verification isn't working. I'm going to try commenting a different way and see if this works.

  14. By gosh - for once I've found someone who's advice I've already followed - and it turns out to be Richard Brautigan? Have to think about that.

Maybe that will be my #4!

This made me laugh, with pure pleasure. Such a great read for a lazy Saturday morning!

  16. Loved this photo Teresa, again I hadn't heard of Richard. He reminds me a bit of John Lennon or Spike Milligan, great photo.

  17. You mentioned serendipity in your comment earlier today, now another appears. I just looked up Richard Brautigan and find that he wrote 'In Watermelon Sugar', and only last week a friend sent me a text saying, read this book!
Methinks somebody is trying to tell me something....

  19. A heck of a lot of meaning (and a heck of a lot of good sense) compressed into just a few words. As for 4 : find a decent cigar and smoke it.

  23. Thank you so much, all of you, for your responses to this post. I have deeply appreciated his kit and what I see as #4: a call to silence following #3. So, I've been trying to spend a bit more time there.

I appreciate your thoughts around this and your own responses to the possibilities of #4.

  24. Oh, I LOVE that 4 is blank.

We fill in our own "4", and I think that's the crux of it all...
