Memphis

I love how the universe mirrors our thoughts back to us. At least, I think that's how it works. It sure seems to. For example: a few years ago, shortly after I returned to Minnesota, I was staying at a friend's house near Duluth. Driving into town one day, a song by Tom T. Hall came on the radio, "That's How I Got to Memphis," one of my favorite classic country songs. I hadn't heard it in years. As the song ended, I got a message on my phone from one of my son's old friends. She'd just had her first child. His name? Memphis.

A few folks have done versions of this song, including Bobby Bare, whose version I very much like. But, it belongs to Tom, the man who wrote it. I've always loved the feel of it, as they say ...

  2. I haven't heard that song in years and a good friend is very pregnant. So now I'm just sitting by the phone...waiting....

  5. Synchronicity--everyone was thinking that, of course. :)
I don't remember this song. Definitely a good old sad country song.

    1. Yes. I believe it was Carl Jung who did fascinating work on this and even coined the word based on what he experienced. I see them as hints as to how the universe works, and I love seeing them. I'm so glad I let that WV drop so I could enjoy your comments again.

  6. I didn't thnk I knew Tom T. Hall. Then, I did a quick youtube search and found a pile of songs I've enjoyed over the years. "Sneaky Snake, for one. How could I remember all the songs but not know his name?

In any event, this is a good one, too. As for those synchronicities, the only thing better are the serendipities. As someone once said, there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in our philosophies.

    1. I listened to him obsessively for quite some time, but many years ago. He writes some of the best "B" sides ever. Every song is a gem of some element of humanity. He knows people inside out. "Pay No Attention to Alice," is a good example.

I continue to be amazed at the universe, and I will always ask the question,"What is the true nature of reality?"

      Thanks, Linda!

  7. Synchronicity - it happens almost daily - I wish I had kept a record throughout my life, not too late I guess.

    1. Never too late, and a lovely thought. I have trouble remembering all of them, but they are in the moment, and it's the moment where they matter, I suppose. Some of them, like this one, remain stronger in my thought. :)

  8. It's been a long time since I heard this song. Thanks for the reminder and the smile it brings. I heard Tom T. Hall many times from the AM radio at my grandparents house and on those early Saturday evening country music TV shows. Good memories. :)
