A Broken Hallelujah

Leonard Cohen is one of the greatest songwriters who's ever lived and I love his song, "Hallelujah." For some time now, I've been rather partial to Jeff Buckley's version, but I recently found another and have grown to love its quiet gentleness. These boys from Norway can sing and their kind souls can be heard in every note.

The photograph is mine.

  5. I was listening to Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah a couple of days ago. I copied the lyrics and put both in a draft post. Whenever I 'do a YouTube.... even though on my favorites list ... I'll click on another version .. Susan Boyle! was on the side bar.... just glorious.

What a contrast between she and Leonard... I must have listened to both of them at least three times...

These young boys, I didn't see... very nice ... glad you posed them.

    wonderful song

  9. This is a version I'd not heard, Teresa. I'm so grateful that you posted it. Such a simple, pared back rendition of, as you've already said, and anthem for our times.

  10. You know this is one of my all time favorite songs. It is an eternal song that will certainly last till the end of time.
I have listened to numerous versions of this and one of my favorites is sung by Jon Bon Jovi.
    ps. The photo is spectacular.

    1. Yes, it is eternal. thank you so much for telling me about the Bon Jovi version. I had not heard it, and I always love listening to another rendition of it.

The rusting barbed wire? It's at my garden, and I thank you for noticing ... I love how those little pink flowers on that fragile tendril are growing along it ...

  11. Nature has a way of making good use of those things that man has abandoned. Sometimes you wonder if "man" really is the most intelligent life form on the planet.
ps Please let me know if you liked the Bon Jovi version.

    1. I am becoming convinced that man is not the greater idea. People want to say it's because of our power of reasoning and thought that sets us apart and I say that's the very reason we are less intelligent that many forms of life... :)

Yes, I liked it very much. I will never tire of listening to that song...

  13. I love the simpleness of this version. Everyone has their fav and mine is k.d. lang...I could listen to it all day. When my dad passed away two years ago I heard it on the radio and for some reason it just struck me to my very core...I had to pull over to the side of the road to gather myself. It just reminded me so much of the beauty of my dad's life....truly beautiful!

  14. Tis beautiful and thank you for bringing it to my attention. I am a Cohen devotee too and he left his deep impressions in me when I was a younger thing - that last until this day and thereafter.
Interested to read (in your comments) that Susan Boyle has a version too and am now off to find it.
