More Light is Fermenting

There's almost a foot of new snow this morning and the wind is persistent, as it pushes it into snowdrifts around my porch. A part of me wants to complain, but I also realize it might be exactly what I need, perhaps even asked for, in order to stay here inside a bit longer...

"Spiced Manna"

Someone
Will steal you if you don't
Stay near

And sell you as a slave in the
Market.

I sing
To the nightingales' hearts
Hoping they will learn
My verse,

So that no one will ever imprison
Your brilliant angel
Feathers.

Have I put enough spiced manna
On your plate
Tonight

In this tavern
Where Hafiz
Serves?

If not please wait,
For more light is now
Fermenting.

Someone will steal you if you
Don't stay near,

And sell you as a slave in
The market,

So your Beloved and I
Sing.

~Hafiz

The photograph was taken yesterday evening at 6:00, as more snow continued to come down...

  2. Oh my gosh!!! It looks like the middle of winter and we're 11 days away from May. Yes, this is very odd. I'm further south, but my heater is still on. Too chilly and wet to even start working in my yard...sheesh!

  7. Hello Teresa! What a beautiful winter picture. you might almost forgive the weather! But enough snow now. We had a day with 18 celsius the next below zero. Confusion between winter and summer clothes!
Leg warmers or not!! LOL! It's sunny today but icy cold.

Is Buddy running out in this deep snow?
    Wruff Buddy!! How are you?

A beautiful poem from a beautiful soul, thank you Teresa.

    1. A very cold morning here, but warmer weather soon... rather confusing... :)

Buddy loves the snow and buries his nose over and over, then sits in it and listens to the night. Buddy sends greetings in return. :)

Thank you so much, Grethe. I so love seeing you here...

  10. This poem is like an old fairy tale where the mother tells a story to her children to scare them into staying close to home... but it's like a song... a beautiful, frightening song. I can almost hear the music.
Hope Spring comes soon for you.

  11. We really got spoiled by the early spring last year. It seems like we are experiencing the karmic rebound this year!

  15. A beautiful photo Teresa. Your camera loves you. I expect to see some real spring weather very soon. Soon the mosquitos will be biting you. A head-to-toe mosquito net will be required for your au natural walks in the woods. Spring will be short so enjoy each and every day of it.

Yes, a short spring, then the skeeters... It's so good to "see" you ... Thanks for the sweet thoughts...

Be sure to check out my micropoetry blog on my sidebar: bayou summer. You might like the poem by my "guest poet," Cletis Stump and then come back tomorrow for another of mine I think you'll like... :))

  18. There is something about snow which is cosy and reassuring - at least at first. but by the time April comes, I want my mind to soar into blue skies.

  19. But there's lovely moisture in that snow! Just hope for a gentle snowmelt. There's some concern north of you that a sudden temperature change and a too-fast melt will result in flooding - especially around Winnepeg and on the prairie.

Oh, I'm so prosaic about this weather stuff. I do love it, and it is beautiful, but I'm still drought conditioned to see every snowfall first in terms of inches of moisture!

We finally had a perfect spring weekend last week. That's why I'm so behind on all things bloggish and housekeeping-ish. I took two days to unplug and just go enjoy the weather and wildflowers and little places I'd never been. In central Texas there's a collection of German and Czech churches that are jewels - their interiors are stenciled and painted within an inch of their lives, and they've been that way since the mid-to-late 1800s. I'd never seen them. Now I had, and their flowers all around. One of these days you'll have flowers all around, too!

Your trip to those old churches sounds very interesting. Good photo opps. I am so looking forward to flowers! Thanks for your lovely comment.

  20. There is a part of me that sorely misses Talihina, and this photo reminds me of that awesomeness of being next to nature and the power found in isolation. The being next to god thing as a dog sits with the snow.
